The Rosenberg Foundation endowment is invested in a diversified and actively managed portfolio of stocks and bonds, consistent with Rosenberg Foundation's fiduciary duties under law. A small part of the Foundation's endowment is invested in mutual funds and venture capital partnerships. The Foundation's investments had a total market value of $60,136,201 December 31, 2013.
Rosenberg Foundation investments are managed by Regis Management Company (Palo Alto, CA) and Osterweis Capital Management (San Francisco, CA).
Federal law requires that each private foundation spend no less than five percent of the market value of its assets in grants and operating expenses each year. The Rosenberg Foundation's policy is to distribute more each year than federal law requires. From 2006-2010, the Foundation exceeded a total payout of six percent over the five-year period. The policy of the Foundation is to spend an average of 5.5% of assets annually in order to maintain the real value of the Foundation's endowment over time.
